What is life like in the monastery? The audiovisual space provides insight into how the Benedictine community is organized and the history of the Montserrat monastery.

THE NATURAL PARK

Through the Torrent
Ride the Sant Joan funicular, visit the Nature Classroom. Return on foot to the monastery, crossing the Santa María torrent via the Santa Ana hermitage path. This route allows you to see the formation of spires in the Montserrat rock and its characteristic forest.

The Paths of San Jerónimo
Ride the funicular, visit the Nature Classroom. Approach the summit of San Jerónimo via the Camí Nou. Descend to the monastery via the Camí Vell – Pla dels Ocells, Escales dels Pobres, etc. – This route offers extensive knowledge of the mountain: geology, vegetation, and fauna.

From a Bird’s Eye View
A route through the natural park that will take you to the highest point of the massif, the summit of San Jerónimo. Enjoy spectacular views and discover the peculiarities of the Montserrat relief and forest.

THE MUSEUM

The World of Egyptian Gods 
By observing the funerary and cult objects displayed in the museum and with the help of graphic materials, we will delve into the knowledge of ancient Egyptian civilization. 
Objectives of the activity: 

  • Understand the main characteristics of Egyptian civilization
  • Learn to value archaeological heritage as a source of knowledge
  • Comprehend the Egyptian concept of the “beyond”

Learning to Look at a Painting 
Students will acquire the necessary skills to interpret a painting: composition, technique, color, etc. 
Objectives of the activity: 

  • Stimulate observational and analytical skills
  • Introduction to the compositional elements of a painting
  • Differentiate between main materials and techniques of artistic creation

From Hammurabi to Alexander the Great 
In ancient times, people around the Mediterranean Sea established themselves and turned their distinctive cultural traits into the foundation of great civilizations. This is the time of the birth of writing, the expansion of trade, and monumental constructions. 
Objectives of the activity: 

  • Approach the birth of great civilizations present in the Mediterranean
  • Value archaeological heritage as a source of knowledge to interpret historical and cultural traits
  • Learn to place different civilizations in space and time and identify common and distinctive traits among them

Journey to Biblical Orient 
Objects from Mesopotamia, Egypt, and the classical world illustrate the great ancient cultures of the Mediterranean. We will experience archaeology in the era when Father Bonaventura Ubach formed the collection now on display in the museum. 
Objectives of the activity:

  • Approach the beginnings of archaeological collecting
  • Highlight the role of the Mediterranean Sea as a link between peoples and a cultural diffuser
  • Present archaeology as a science that allows us to understand the past

The Path of Art 
An itinerary through the museum following the path of art from era to era, from Gothic to avant-garde movements. We will recognize the main artists and movements and understand the evolution of materials and painting genres.

  • Present the history of painting
  • Enhance the analysis of artistic techniques and materials

THE ESCOLANIA DE MONTSERRAT

The Escolanía de Montserrat opens its doors for you to experience one of the oldest and most emblematic music schools in the world. We will visit the facilities of the three areas of the Escolanía: the Choir, the School, and the Residence of the choristers, and explain how their daily life is organized. We will end the tour at the Basilica, where you can hear the choristers singing live.
