Climate of Montserrat

Such pointed topography on the mountain, with abrupt changes in altitude, lead to sharp contrast in climate over small distances; it is perhaps better to talk of microclimates as opposed to one overall climate.
 
According to the weather station at the monastery, located at an altitude of 740 m., the average yearly rainfall is 678 l./m². The average yearly temperature is between 13º - 14ºC, and the influence of the sea winds is notable, as there is often thick fog, which provides generous humidity for the plants. Snowfall is rare, but every once in a while it snows considerably.
